Schlerotherapy is a microinjection procedure that needs no pain medication or surgery. Abnormal veins are treated by injecting a solution called a sclerosant, sealing the vein off from the rest of the vein network in your leg, allowing the body to naturally redirect the blood flow to the healthy veins. An injection of solution into the vein that causes the vein walls to swell, stick together, and seal shut. This stops the flow of blood and the vein turns into scar tissue. In a few weeks, the vein should fade. The same vein may need to be treated more than once.
Veins have one-way valves composed of two leaflets that close together when filled with blood. The closed valve prevents blood from flowing back into the leg. If these valves become damaged and fail to function properly (become incompetent) blood can become static in the leg. If the valve is not closing properly blood falls back down and causes pressure sideways. Resulting in varicose veins.

Sclerotherapy is a common treatment for small and medium size spider veins, and is preferred over laser for eliminating spider veins. Unlike a laser, the sclerosing solution additionally closes the "feeder veins" under the skin that are causing the spider veins to form, thereby making a recurrence of the spider veins in the treated area less likely. With this procedure, veins can be eliminated at an early stage, helping to prevent further complications.
You may need anywhere from one to several sclerotherapy sessions depending on the type and number of veins being treated.
Studies have shown that many of the injected veins may be eliminated with each session of sclerotherapy. Although this procedure works for most patients, there are no guarantees for success.

Generally, normal activities may be resumed after sclerotherapy. Support hose must be worn for several days to assist in the resolution of the veins. This procedure, performed in the doctor's office, usually causes only minimal discomfort, and walking is very important and necessary to aid in the elimination of the veins.

Bruising and pigmentation may occur after sclerotherapy. Bruising typically disappears within 1-2 weeks. Although pigmentation almost always fades, although it can last for several months.

Injecting the unwanted veins with a sclerosing solution causes the target vein to immediately shrink, and then dissolve over a period of weeks as the body naturally absorbs the treated vein.
Multiple injections of dilute sclerosant are injected into the abnormal surface veins of the involved leg. The patient's leg is then compressed with either stockings or bandages that they wear usually for two weeks after treatment. Patients are also encouraged to walk regularly during that time. It is common practice for the patient to require at least two treatment sessions separated by several weeks to significantly improve the appearance of their leg veins.

Sclerotherapy can also be performed using microfoam sclerosants under ultrasound guidance to treat larger varicose veins, including the great and small saphenous veins.^[13] After a map of the patient's varicose veins is created using ultrasound, these veins are injected whilst real-time monitoring of the injections is undertaken, also using ultrasound. The sclerosant can be observed entering the vein, and further injections performed so that all the abnormal veins are treated. Follow-up ultrasound scans are used to confirm closure of the treated veins, and any residual varicose veins can be identified and treated.

Sclerotherapy is fully FDA approved in the USA.

Sclerotherapy has been used in the treatment of varicose veins for over 150 years. Like varicose vein surgery, sclerotherapy techniques have evolved during that time. Modern techniques including ultrasonographic guidance and foam sclerotherapy are the latest developments in this evolution.

What Happens After Sclerotherapy

After sclerotherapy you will be able to drive yourself home and resume your regular daily activities. You will be instructed to wear support hosiery to "compress" the treated vessels. If you have compression hosiery from previous treatments, you are encouraged to bring them with you to be certain they still have adequate compression. Department store support stockings will not be adequate if a heavy compression stocking is needed. Your doctor's office can recommend where to purchase heavy compression stockings.
In general, spider veins respond in three to six weeks, and larger veins respond in three to four months. If the veins respond to the treatment, they will not reappear. However, new veins may appear at the same rate as before. If needed, you may return for injections.
Following the injections, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, or other anti-inflammatory drugs for at least 48 hours. Tylenol may be used if needed.
Also, you should avoid the following for 48 hours after treatment:

Hot baths
Hot compresses
Whirlpools or saunas
Direct exposure to sunlight

Dysport vs. Botox...

When it comes to reducing and mitigating facial wrinkles Botox has become as ubiquitous as Kleenex in the consumer world. Botox is manufactured by Allergan, and has enjoyed it's success because there has been a lack of competition until Dysport was approved by the FDA in 2009.

Though widely used in Europe for several years until it was approved in this country Dysport does use the same solution (botulinum toxin) for smoothing out forehead wrinkles, crow's feet and also for the corners of the mouth Dysport is allegedly lower in concentration than Botox of the same substance.

Dysport is often priced lower than Botox, and there is a catch. Dysport has a more likely chance of spreading because of the lower concentration of the botulinum toxin substance. It isn't known which lasts longer of the two, but Dysport will not be as effective if not injected by a trained physician because of the likelihood of spreading of the botulinum toxin. Of course any spa enthusiast from a novice to a experienced pro would like
be well equipped before they make their trip to the spa, and we see it as our responsibility to inform, and educate our clientele and those using Google about the differences of both.

It has been noted that Dysport has been effective for those patients who have not had seen desired results with Botox. This may because their facial muscles have taken better to the Dysport injection, and it's concentration.The side effects of both Dysport and Botox are similar may be temporary redness and soreness at the injection site(s). Restylane® vs. Perlane® Filler

Juvéderm® like Perlane is a filler that relies on hyaluronic acid rather than collagen to plump up the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in the human body. Since the hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm® is created by biosynthesis in a laboratory, patients are not required to take an allergy test before receiving treatment.

The hyaluronic acid in Perlane® supplements the body's natural supply, which becomes depleted with age. Perlane® is biodegradable so its effects are not permanent. The results of a Perlane® filler treatment tend to last six months to a year. This is much longer than the typical results of collagen injections, which may only last three to six months.

Perlane® is made from non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) gel. This means that Perlane® contains no animal products. Since hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the skin and other tissue, there is no need for a skin test when using Perlane® filler.

Perlane® is primarily the same product as Restylane®, but Perlane® filler contains a larger concentration of hyaluronic acid. Because of this higher concentration of hyaluronic acid, Perlane® is usually used for larger folds, while Restylane® is better suited for smaller wrinkles or to maintain the results of a previous Perlane® injection.

Because of the differing levels of hyaluronic acid, Restylane® is less expensive than Perlane® filler, and Perlane® lasts longer.

The benefits of Juvéderm® filler injections are easy to see: immediate improvement in the appearance of wrinkles and creases, and fuller lips for those who wish to augment this aspect of their face. Risks are few, as the materials contained in Juvéderm® filler are naturally produced in the human body and are therefore not allergy-inducing. There is a side effect of swelling at the injection site, but this is normal and subsides rapidly after treatment

Skin resurfacing also known as "laser peel" is a CO2 laser which removes the layers of unwanted skin, and utilizes fractional laser technology. Fractional therapy describes a treatment that affects only a fraction or small percentage of the skin. This is sometimes an efficient procedure, and does have downtime of 3-5 days with the most noticable effect taking place with the initial forty eight hours.

Skin resurfacing does take up to four treatments to be fully effective, and the possible short-term risks and complications include prolonged redness of skin, tenderness or a burning sensation, itching, increased sensitivity to light, and easy flushing. However, some people prefer to remain unseen by others until the worst of the redness, crusting, and/or peeling subsides. This time period can be from 2 weeks to 2 months, depending on the depth of your peel.

Non fractional skin tightening has no downtime, and is non-evasive. You can return to normal activity right after the treatment. The treatments take minutes to perform, and is more cost effective for those who do not choose fractional laser therapy.

Difference between Botox and Dysport

Hello spa enthusiast!....I know you have heard Dysport and you may have some concerns on what the difference between Botox and Dysport.

Many people aren’t aware that Dyport has been widely used in Europe for several years
for the smoothing wrinkles for the forehead and glabella (vertical frown lines between the eyebrows) areas of the face just like Botox has in this country. Dysport was approved by the FDA last year.

Dysport may begin to work a bit faster than Botox, by as much as one to two days earlier, and may be alternative for those who Botox does not produce the desired effect. It may be an advantage if you have a big party a couple days later and need a really quick fix. In some cases wrinkles begin to fade as soon as 24 hours after receiving Dysport treatment. Dysport may last about the same time, and Dysport is less expensive for the same effect as Botox although there are some who claim that Dysport lasts a bit longer.
